Final Resume

The typing done for you. The decision still yours.

Prefill runs on your own Mac or Windows PC. It opens the employer's application form, types what you would have typed, and then hands the form back for you to check and submit.

What it does

  1. Opens the posting's application form in a browser window on your computer: Google Chrome if you have it, otherwise a browser the helper installs.
  2. Fills the form from the top down, one field after another: your name and contact details, links, address, work authorization and sponsorship, the consent boxes, the demographic questions the way you chose to answer them, and the resume tied to the search that matched.
  3. Puts back the answers you gave on earlier forms that asked the same question.
  4. Writes a draft for free-text questions from your resume and the posting, marked as a draft.
  5. Outlines every required field that is still empty.
  6. Goes through the form with you, field by field, saying where each value came from. You confirm it, skip it, or fix it on the page; a fix can be remembered for next time.

What it never does

  • Press Submit. Nothing in Prefill clicks a form's Submit button or sends the Enter key. While it is filling, submitting is blocked; when it has finished, the button is outlined with a note that it is yours.
  • Apply in bulk. One posting at a time, started by you.
  • Type a signature or a verification code for you.
  • Accept a cookie banner on your behalf (where one is in the way, it declines it), or agree to a dialog that would also sign you up for an employer's emails; that one is left to you.
  • Invent an answer it has no basis for. When your details do not decide a question, the field stays empty and is marked.

Supported application systems

As of October 2026. A posting shows a Prefill button only when its form is one of the supported ones.

SystemPrefill today
GreenhouseYes: the whole one-page form, including Greenhouse forms embedded on an employer's own site. If the employer emails a security code after you submit, the panel tells you which address it went to.
AshbyYes: the whole one-page form, including its Yes/No questions.
LeverYes: contact details, links, location, resume, the employer's own questions and the demographic questions.
EightfoldYes, on employers' one-page forms. If the employer asks you to sign in first, you do that in the window and Prefill carries on. Some Eightfold sites pass the application to another system; those have no Prefill button.
WorkdaySwitched off for now. Workday postings are still found and listed; Apply opens them.
Everything elseNot filled. iCIMS, SuccessFactors, Oracle, Phenom and similar need a separate account at each employer. Apply opens the posting for you.

Installing it

Once per computer, a few minutes. Mac and Windows.

  1. Have Python 3.9 or newer. On a Mac it comes with Apple's developer tools; on Windows, install it from python.org with “Add python.exe to PATH” ticked.
  2. Copy the install command from Settings in your account. It is one line for Terminal (Mac) or PowerShell (Windows) and contains your personal token.
  3. Run it. It creates a DirectApply folder in your home directory with the helper and a browser of its own (about 150 MB).
  4. Start the helper by double-clicking the launcher in that folder. Leave its window open while you work; closing it turns Prefill off.

What stays on your computer: the helper, a token that identifies your account, the cookies of the application sites you signed in to in that window, and a log of each run. Removing Prefill is deleting two folders.

Be aware: the install command downloads and runs a script, like most developer tools do. Read it first if you want to; it is plain text. The helper listens only on your own computer (127.0.0.1).
